This whole grain rice has naturally black grains. This Italian variety is obtained by a hybridation of a whole grain together with an Asian variety. This is not genetically modified, it undergoes many growing seasons to become stable. The result is a riso venere that can survive Vercelli's colder winter temperatures. The grains are medium-large and are highly nutritious - especially in iron and selenium. Its deep black color turns deep purple when cooked, developing an "intoxicating" aroma and a rich nutty flavor. It has a dense texture and striking color. Makes a great side dish, a cold rice salad or even rice pudding. The flavor complements shellfish and vegetables. Amazing with fava beans! Mix with white rice for interest and flavor. They follow the whole agricultural and food chain of production, from the preparation of the soil up to the harvesting, from the plant processing in the farm with old stone grinding machines up to the packaging. This guarantees a product which has been controlled in each transforming phase.
