Bob's Red Mill Garbanzo Beans are also known as chickpeas or ceci beans. Found in Mediterranean, Indian, and Middle Eastern dishes, these popular beans provide a hearty, "meaty" texture to your dishes. Their texture is firm and flavor is mild and nutty. They're great for warm or cold salads, soups, curries, dals, and as a meat substitute in burgers or tacos. They may be best known for their starring role in falafel and hummus. Roasted garbanzo beans are also a satisfying snack.

Buy our Preium Legumes grown from the fertile soil of Washington State. The Mader family has been involved in agriculture for five generations. Our farm operations span across the south east part of Washington State and are headquartered in Pullman, WA. In 2001 we acted on an opportunity to add a grain and legume cleaning facility to our operation. Our Cleaning Facility, Palouse Trading is located in Palouse, WA - just a short drive from Pullman. Palouse Trading was originally named Wallace Grain and Pea when it first opened its doors in the 1930's. The plant was designed for quality not quantity and has cleaned legumes and grains for the international market and domestic consumption. Our food is appealing to our consumers because of its nutrition, aesthetics and traceability to our farm. Each bag of food comes with a QR Code that allows you to see harvest details of your food, seeding dates, the field we grew it in, and more. All of our products are certified Kosher Parve, Non-GMO Project Certified and our farming methods are Certified Sustainable by the Food Alliance. Our foods are different because Steve & Kevin Mader plant, harvest, clean and package at our own facilities in Washington State - there are few if any companies that can track your food and details of your food back to the field like we do.

We live in a difficult world. One, which is hazardous, unhealthy and detrimental to life in all its forms. Take for instance, the pesticide levels in our farms which in turn finds its way into the earth and from thereon into the water & food. Notwithstanding the fallacy of more pesticides-better yield. Today it is a well-known fact that the excessive use of pesticides has created resistant organisms and even harmful mutated ones. All of which means the farmer sprays more & more pesticides every year to keep the pests at bay.
Organic regulations strictly prohibit the use of synthetic, toxic, persistent pesticides. If they are not avoided, they will persist in air, water, and food and in our bodies. This could be alarming and cancer causing. On the less worrying side could be several undiagnosed digestive disorders, allergies and a mixed up biorhythm too. Organic also means the farmer is protected from the expenses on pesticide.
Organic certification is a process that helps producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products to get their products certified. Organic certification is intended to assure quality and prevent fraud. "Certified organic" label is a product assurance for consumers worldwide.

To cook beans on your stove-top, combine soaked or dried beans, water, oil or fat, and seasonings in a saucepan or pot of appropriate size. Bring the beans to a boil, reduce the heat, then cover and simmer until beans are tender. This takes 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the bean variety. Check the beans occasionally to see if they are covered with the cooking liquid. If there is so much liquid absorption and evaporation that the top of the beans becomes exposed, add very hot tap water to the pot to cover the beans. When dried beans boil, a foam forms on the top of the cooking liquid. This foam is water-soluble protein released from the beans and it will be absorbed back into the bean cooking liquid. It is not necessary to remove the foam. (To keep the foam down when cooking beans, add 1 Tablespoon of butter, drippings (consider flavor), or vegetable salad oil, for each cup of beans.)
