Piter Spanish Capers in Sea Salt - Extra Large Jar (35.2 Ounce)
Manufacturer: Piter
Brand: Piter
Tangy in flavor and delicate in texture, capers add a special touch that moves a recipe from good to great. Capers are the buds of a wild shrub that grows heartily along the Mediterranean coasts of Spain and they are an excellent addition to salads, sauces and many other dishes. Frequently preserved in brine, these capers are packed in just sea salt. This ancient method of preserving food is the best way to retain the full original flavor of capers. To use, measure out as few or as many capers as you need, place them in a strainer and run under tap water to wash away the salt. The rinsed capers are a little firmer than those in brine and they will not add extra salt to your recipe as brined capers do. Use capers as a seasoning or garnish for green salads and potato salads, serve them alongside smoked fish or add them to a brown butter or lemon flavored pan sauce for freshly prepared seafood or poultry. Refrigerate after opening.
Mustapha's Non-pareil Capers Large Jar 1.6 Lb Imported Morocco
Manufacturer: Mustapha's Mediterranean
Brand: Mustapha's Mediterranean
Delicious in sauces and with seafood, capers add a slightly bitter bite to cuisines throughout the Mediterranean. They are a common ingredient in Southern France, Spain, Italy and Morocco. serving suggestions: Try capers in pasta, salads, stews, vegetables, poultry and meats, on pizza, or in remoulades and tapenades. Capers go especially well with lemons or tomatoes. about Mustapha's Moroccan Capers Mustapha's high-quality capers are grown in the Atlas mountain range in Morocco and harvested in a remarkably labor intensive process. As the buds ripen from May through July, the plants are picked over constantly. Capers are collected by hand, and sorted by size before being naturally preserved in salt water and a tiny amount of vinegar - a much preferred packing method than packing just in vinegar. Caper buds grow quickly, and the time they are picked determines the size. Non-pareils ("without peer" in French) are picked first and are the smallest size, medium sized capers are allowed to grow a bit longer.
Greek Caper "Makedoniki Gi" 150g
Manufacturer: Tsarouchas Bros
Brand: Tsarouchas Bros
Capers are a distinctive ingredient in Italian cuisine, especially in Sicilian and southern Italian cooking. They are commonly used in salads, pasta salads, pizzas, meat dishes and pasta sauces. Examples of uses in Italian cuisine are chicken piccata and spaghetti alla puttanesca. Capers are also known for being one of the ingredients of tartar sauce. They are also often served with cold smoked salmon or cured salmon dishes (especially lox and cream cheese). Capers are also sometimes substituted for olives to garnish a martini. If the caper bud is not picked, it flowers and produces a fruit called a caper berry. The fruit can be pickled and then served as a Greek mezze. Caper leaves, which are hard to find outside of Greece, are used particularly in salads and fish dishes. They are pickled or boiled and preserved in jars with brine -- like caper buds. Dried caper leaves are also used as a substitute for rennet in the manufacturing of high-quality cheese.
