Ranch Dressing. It's a staple in so many American homes. And yet, the big national brands of this cultural touchstone of American cuisine are loaded with preservatives and artificials. What do these preservatives and artificials accomplish for the big national brands? One, they lower costs-cheaper ingredients equal lower finished cost for the manufacturer. Two, they allow the national brands to maintain a lower pH in their Ranch, which allows the buttermilk flavor to really pop, and ultimately, gives the dressing its signature flavor. At Trader Joe's, we've long faced a Ranch Dressing conundrum, especially when it comes to Ranch Dressing that doesn't require refrigeration (shelf-stable, in grocery biz-speak). Because we don't allow those chemical preservatives and artificial additives in our products, it's been very challenging (read: "impossible") to find a shelf-stable Ranch Dressing that comes close to capturing that tangy, herby, buttermilk flavor. Until now. Our supplier worked with us for months to develop a Ranch that would live up to our expectations; that work has paid off with Trader Joe's Organic Ranch Dressing, a Ranch Dressing that surpassed our expectations, and now stands as the bar by which we will measure every other Ranch Dressing in the future.
